Dear Mr Sim

Re: Red Lichtie Tartan

I am delighted to be able to confirm that the Royal Burgh of Arbroath Community Council have given our approval of your design for the Red Lichtie tartan.  We consider it an honour to adopt on behalf of the entire community, your beautiful tartan as a representation of our home.

Thank you so much for presenting us with the design and explanation at our Community Council meeting on 26 September 2012.  We were all very interested to learn the origins of the colours used in your tartan design.  It is especially impressive that you have a historical and cultural basis for each of the colours and placements within the weave.

You are very dedicated to undertake such a task of researching the design.  We feel it has an important significance to the community as a whole as you have incorporated the colours within the weave so thoughtfully to create a unique and meaningful representation of the essence of the people and history of Arbroath.

This tartan although beautiful, is obviously much more than just a “fashion” tartan.  The Red Lichtie design deserves to be dedicated as our town’s official Red Lichtie District Tartan.  Therefore, we give our authorisation for you to amend the registration of the tartan from the category of 'Fashion' to 'District' tartan representing Arbroath.

Yours sincerely,

Mike Cosans
Chair
Royal Burgh of Arbroath Community Council
